The EPIC Atlas is fast, easy-to-use and requires no formal GIS training.
Instructors use the atlas to support lesson plans in environmental science, ecology, biology, geography and social studies. Digital maps address agriculture, climate, ecology, forestry, geology, hazards and events, land use cover, demographic change, soils and water resources themes.
Minnesota Planning is working with the Minnesota Educational Effectiveness Program (MEEP) and others to distribute the atlas to educators and government organizations. For more information, contact Jim Ramstrom at jim.ramstrom@state.mn.us or 651-296-2559.

Magellan's GPS Treasure Hunt
is the latest of many geocaching events the company has sponsored or supported on local, national and international playing fields, including the first "Cache In - Trash Out Day," in conjunction with Groundspeak's Geocaching.com, on Saturday, April 26 (2003)
This virtual event brought together thousands of geocaching enthusiasts and Magellan GPS users from as many as 160 countries who picked up trash from parks and other public land areas around the globe during their high-tech treasure hunts and hikes.
Thales Navigation also supports Navicache.com and its many geocaching events around the globe. In addition, the company is often directly involved in activities sponsored by local geocaching groups throughout the United States.
What's all the fuss about Topographical Maps?
Remember, the GPS is only going to tell you how far you need to go and in what
direction. It is not going to tell you about the obstacles that may lie between
you and your destination.
Can you imagine the frustration and disappointment after a 3 mile hike to find yourself 200 yards from the cache that sits on the other side of that swamp or hundred foot gorge you just arrived at.
Having a customized TOPO! GPS Map of the area helps you assess your best direction options and pre-plan your "least hassle" approach alternatives ...
